2024 MBC Acting Awards Canceled in Light of Tragic Airplane Accident
MBC has announced that the live broadcast of the '2024 MBC Acting Awards' scheduled for December 30 will be canceled and replaced with a recorded broadcast. This decision comes in response to the tragic airplane accident that occurred on December 29, which has deeply saddened the nation. MBC expressed its condolences to the victims and their families, stating that the cancellation is a gesture of mourning and solidarity with those affected. The network had initially planned to air the awards live at 8:40 PM but opted for a recorded format to honor the victims. MBC also mentioned that details regarding the scheduling of the recorded broadcast and the announcement of award winners will be provided later. The awards ceremony was expected to be highly competitive, featuring popular dramas and a strong lineup of nominees, including Lee Ha-nee (이하늬), Kim Nam-joo (김남주), Lee Je-hoon (이제훈), Kim Hee-sun (김희선), Byun Yo-han (변요한), Han Suk-kyu (한석규), and Yoo Yeon-seok (유연석). The decision to cancel the event reflects the somber mood of the nation following the accident, which involved a Jeju Air flight attempting to land at Muan International Airport, resulting in significant casualties. As of now, authorities have confirmed that out of 181 passengers, only two survived. MBC concluded its statement by wishing for the victims' peace and extending heartfelt condolences to their families.
