'지금 거신 전화는' Star Chae Soo-bin Discusses Her Unique Role and Communication in Sign Language

Actress Chae Soo-bin shared her reasons for choosing the new drama '지금 거신 전화는' (The Call You Just Made) during a press conference held on November 21 at the Golden Mouse Hall in MBC's Sangam building in Seoul. She described her character as 'quirky and fun,' adding that it was an attractive role to take on.

'지금 거신 전화는' is a romantic thriller that revolves around a secret romance between a couple in a politically arranged marriage, which begins with a threatening phone call. The drama is based on a popular web novel of the same name from KakaoPage, generating significant anticipation among fans of the original work.

The script is penned by writer Kim Ji-woon, known for his well-structured narratives in dramas like '멜랑꼴리아' (Melancholia) and '의사요한' (Doctor John). The series is directed by Park Sang-woo, who has showcased his delicate directing style and unique visual aesthetics in works such as '금혼령, 조선혼인금지령' (The Forbidden Marriage). The cast includes trusted actors Yoo Yeon-seok, Chae Soo-bin, Heo Nam-jun, and Jang Gyu-ri, promising the birth of a remarkable drama.

Chae Soo-bin plays the role of Hong Hee-joo, the wife of Baek Sa-eon. Hee-joo suffers from selective mutism due to a childhood accident and works as a skilled sign language interpreter. Chae Soo-bin expressed her excitement about the genre blend of romance and thriller, stating, 'I found the script enjoyable to read. As soon as I met the character Hee-joo, I felt a strong desire to play her. We are so used to expressing ourselves verbally, so communicating through sign language felt refreshing.'

Regarding her character, she noted, 'Hee-joo seems like a passive character who has lived a repressed and difficult life, but she also possesses a strong will and a unique quirkiness that I found interesting and appealing.'

The new MBC drama '지금 거신 전화는' is set to premiere on November 22 at 9:50 PM.
